WuchangShouyiUniversityis one of the first group of private universities inChina, which was established in August 2000 with the authorization of Ministry of Education. It was jointly established by Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan Junwei Cultural Communications Group. It was first named Huazhong University of Science andTechnologyJunweiCollege, and then changed into Huazhong University of Science and Technology Wuchang Branch in the next March. In May 2015, it was renamedWuchangShouyiUniversity.

The university is located inSouth Lake, Wuchang. Its picturesque environment covers an area of over 1,000 acres, with total construction area of 590,000 square meters. It is well-equipped with modern teaching and living facilities. A total of more than 13,000 full-time students are studying in here. The university holds around 1000 faculty members, including 709 full-time teachers, among which 246 possess senior professional titles and 396 were with a graduate degree.

The university is made up of seven departments and schools. Thirty-nine undergraduate majors are distributed in six disciplines, namely, information, electromechanical device, civil engineering, economic management, literature, laws, and art. There are 58 foundational or professional laboratories. In September 2008, the first talents training base of Taiwan-funded enterprises in mainlandChinawas established. There are 1,228,100 paper books and a total of 32,730GB of e-books in the library.

WuchangShouyiUniversityadheres to its educational philosophy, and sticks to its position to produce talents with practical skills. In 2012, it passed official assessment and gained the right to grant bachelor's degree.

The university takes in advanced educational philosophies and management modes from excellent international universities. So far, the university’s had extensive educational cooperation with universities inUnited States,Taiwanand so on.

As of July 2015, the university has delivered more than 45,000 graduates to the nation and society, its graduates have won wide recognition of society and employers. The employment rate remains over 90%. For some engineering majors, the employment rate even reaches 100%. Wherein nearly one thousand students were hired as civil servants by the national Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Water Resources and provincial or municipal authorities.

Every year more than 20% of the graduates have been admitted as Postgraduate Students to Peking University, Tsinghua University, China University of Technology and other universities in Hong Kong, United States, Germany, Canada, Australia, Japan and so on. The postgraduate admission rate in some departments has reached as high as 50%. In the competitions such as National Mathematical Modeling Contest, Zhou Pei-Yuan Mechanics Contest, National College English Contest, National Speech Contest, nearly a thousand students won awards, of which more than 30 won the first prizes at the national level, and more than 60 at the provincial level. In the national judicial exam, its law majors have kept the one-time pass rate of 40% for several years, 20% more than the national average pass rate.
