On behalf of the authorities, Xu Yanbing, the Deputy Director-General of the Education Department of Hubei Province, expressed thanks to Huazhong University of Science and Technology for its contribution to higher education, and to Wuhan Junwei Company for its devotion to developing education, also to distinguished Taiwanese friends for their support of the education inHubei. Xu sang high praise for WSU’s(WuchangShouyiUniversity) achievements in the past 15 years, and placed his ardent hope on its further development.    

Jin Guohua, the president of council, paid tribute. He said, in honor of the Revolution of 1911, the college now is officially changed its name intoWuchangShouyiUniversity. And He expressed his sincere gratitude for the support from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and the society, and for all the guests attending the inauguration ceremony from faraway places. He, on behalf of the investors of the university, promised to keep doing this noble cause without expecting anything in return. He announced to cut down tuition fees for descendants of the 1911 Revolution and students from poor families. He also declared that the college planned to bring in hundreds of double-capability teachers (masters of theoretical knowledge and practical skills) fromTaiwanto improve the quality of education.

That day, at the inauguration ceremony, WSU signed memorandums of cooperation and communication with more than ten colleges and universities, such as Taiwan Longhua University of Science, and Qiaoguang University of Science. Several agreements of cooperation were reached on academic communication, science and research, exchange of teachers and students, and joint education.

According to historical materials,WuchangShouyiUniversityis located right at one of the actual places of the 1911 Revolution. Changing its name intoWuchangShouyiCollegeis a landmark for WSU. WSU will surely inherit Shouyi spirit, promote the cultural and educational exchanges betweenTaiwanand mainland, and accelerate its future development.
